Learn How to Work With Compatibility Gaps
Explore six core principles of compatibility and practical ways to decrease compatibility gaps while increasing relational skills. This section focuses on what couples can do—how to navigate incompatibilities more effectively without forcing alignment.
About the course
Compatibility is often treated as a fixed trait—something couples either have or don’t have. When life changes, faith shifts, or values diverge, many couples begin to question the long-term viability of their relationship based solely on how compatible they feel in the moment. This course offers a more accurate and useful way to understand compatibility, especially in long-term and mixed-faith marriages. Rather than framing compatibility as an all-or-nothing verdict, this course explores how compatibility functions dynamically over time, how it interacts with relational skill and flexibility, and why compatibility concerns often intensify during periods of transition—particularly when one partner experiences a change in faith. Through a research-informed framework and practical application, you’ll learn how to assess compatibility without panic, understand where your relationship currently falls, and identify meaningful ways to strengthen your relationship even when differences remain. The goal is not forced alignment or minimizing real differences, but increased clarity, steadiness, and confidence in how you approach them. This course is designed to help couples step out of fear-based conclusions and into thoughtful, skillful engagement—so compatibility becomes something you can work with, rather than something that controls your sense of confidence in the relationship.
Suzette Halterman
As a couples coach, I spend much of my time working with couples who are facing real and often painful incompatibilities—and the fear that those differences might mean something is fundamentally wrong with their relationship. Over years of this work, clear patterns have emerged around how couples understand compatibility, where they get stuck, and what actually helps them move forward. With advanced training across multiple relationship models, I bring a research-informed and practical lens to the topic of compatibility. This course reflects what I’ve seen repeatedly in my work with long-term and mixed-faith couples when it comes to compatibility in both a long-term relationship and in a mixed-faith marraige
